From Pages to Screen
In 2007, author and screenwriter Leslie Anne Lee wrote a stage adaptation inspired by Christina Rossetti’s classic narrative poem, Goblin Market, reimagining its themes of temptation, desire, and sisterhood for the stage. Nearly two decades later, she was challenged to revisit that work and transform it into a feature screenplay. The result is Come Buy, a dark and atmospheric reimagining of the beloved poem that blends gothic romance, fantasy, and psychological suspense. Drawing on both Rossetti’s timeless imagery and Lee’s own creative evolution as a storyteller, Come Buy represents the culmination of a journey that began on the stage in 2007 and finds new life on the screen in 2026. Rossetti’s original Goblin Market, first published in 1862, remains one of the most enduring and influential works of Victorian literature, providing a rich foundation for Lee’s modern adaptation.
